Peru's incredibly rich and compelling archaeological heritage and its great natural beauty. Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón in the central coastal part of the country, in a valley on a prevalent desert coast overlooking the Pacific. Lima city runs at a slower pace than other South American cities. Lima's inhabitants meet at the penas bars offering folk music, shop at the open marketplaces, and dine at Lima's celebrated restaurants. Several museums display and preserve Peru's past. South of Lima are long white sandy beaches washed by the waters of the southern Pacific stretch away backed by row of huge, brilliant white sand dunes.
